Having the appropriate diet after a gall bladder surgical treatment is very important in maintaining your overall health and your comfort in your daily life. So if you are among those people who have undergone a gall bladder surgery, then here are some of the gall bladder post surgery diet tips for you:
1. Each person’s response to surgical treatment is different:
The most significant thing to be aware of is that your body system is unique in how it acts and responds after your surgery. Pay attention to your body’s reactions – that’s the right advice anybody can give you.
2. Refrain from eating fatty foods:
After the surgical treatment, your body can no longer provide your small intestine the extra dosage of bile that it is accustomed to. That means the digestion of fatty foods is going to take longer than before, because now your body system will need to wait for the bile from the liver to aid the digestion process. For a few weeks after the surgical treatment, keep eating non fatty foods such as cooked rice, soy yogurt, fruits, and low fat soup. Take note: since the fatty foods you used to eat supplied you with protein, you will have to get your protein from other sources. Soy-based meals and beans are a perfect source for that.
3. Go for softer foods:
The harder the food, the more work it will take for your body system to digest it. Go for softer foods right after surgery. For example, try pureed foods such as rice, fruits and vegetables.
4. Give it time:
Take everything one at a time. For instance, if and when you have decided to start eating fatty foods once again, take things slowly. Eat a little bit of it and observe some body reactions. If you do not feel any pain, indigestion or other problems after one hour or so, you can safely venture a little bit further in that direction.
5. Keep in mind that things will or will not return completely to normal:
Keep in mind that having your gall bladder removed will bring some changes to your body’s systems or structures. Your body could end up adapting or adjusting completely to your new condition in which you don’t see the big difference after a while. Or, you can find that you need to completely change your eating habits to eat comfortably. As you head out to the life after the surgical treatment, take things one at a time; do not rush. Your body system will provide you with clear signals (typically in the form of discomfort or pain) if you are pushing things way too fast.
